One of my favorite memories with my Grandfather is of learning to tie my shoes. We were in Florida visiting family. My Uncle promised me a quarter if I could tie my shoes on my own. Mind you this was the seventies and a quarter was like gold to a five year old.
My Grandfather stood in the doorway watching me. He shook his head laughing. I have a better idea. How about if you can ” tie your shoes on your own. We take you to Marineland to meet Flipper.”
I squealed with excitement at the thought. Flipper was one of my favorite television shows. The thought of actually seeing flipper was a great motivator. I did tie my shoes on my own that day. It took quite a while and I blame this for why most adults think my shoes are tied oddly.
Hilton Head Island South Carolina offers many opportunities to watch Dolphins while exploring the waters surrounding Hilton Head Island.
We chose Outside Hilton Head for our adventure. Not only do they offer Dolphin tours but they offer Kayaks, paddle boards, boat and bicycle rentals.
We boarded our tour at Shelter Cove Marina. Located at the Broad Creek. We had an amazing afternoon with quite a historical education. We learned that Hilton Head Island is shaped like a shoe and that Broad Creek is the shoe lace.
The lighthouse on the Intercostal Waterway is not for nautical navigational purposes however it serves as a beacon for visitors to the Island. Hilton Head island is the second largest barrier island in the United States.
Oyster beds line the marsh. The oysters job is filtering the water for the saltwater ecosystem providing a balanced system for the wildlife as well as the human visitors.
We were able to see several dolphins although a sighting is not guaranteed. The summer months bring two thousand dolphins to the area. Each of which is identified by their distinct fin. This is much like a human fingerprint.
We enjoyed our tour beyond our expectations. To schedule your tour visit https://www.outsidehiltonhead.com
